Let’s face it: we, as a society, are using our cell phones more than ever. Those 10 minutes here and there while we check our email and Facebook page add up to hours lost each day. Use your phone to your advantage as you’re learning English by spending some of that time brushing up on your grammar, vocab, and speaking skills. There are countless apps out there to help you do just that, but only the best have made it to our list.

Duolingo

Duolingo is one of the most popular language learning apps out there, especially for learning English. It’s perfect for beginners looking to dip their feet into the pool of a new foreign language. Their gamified approach to learning makes it fun to learn vocabulary, grammar, and basic words. As far as English apps go, this one can't be beat!

Busuu

The free version of Busuu will give you access to flashcards and corrections from native speakers, but their paid plans give you access to learning plans in 12 languages, grammar exercises, quizzes, and speaking practice.

Memrise

Memrise is one of the leading platforms for memorization. It’s mainly focused on language learning, and is a must if you’re looking to improve your vocabulary. Memrise has an offline mode, so you can even use it when you don’t have WiFi.

Babbel

Babbel is a great tool that focuses on vocabulary and memorization. It allows users to set goals and monitor progress as they go. It’s inexpensive and can be done in 10 minute increments, making it the perfect accompaniment to your coffee break!
